Third-year students from the Department of Architecture at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have presented preliminary findings from a 10-day peri-urban survey in the Kwahu East Municipality to the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong.
The survey forms part of the students’ academic training in planning and community analysis and covered communities including Nkwatia, Abetifi and Aduamoah.
The presentations, held at Rock City Hotel, brought together faculty and stakeholders to review the students’ early observations from the field. Among those present were the Head of the Department of Architecture, Prof. Daniel Y. A. Duah; the Head of the Department of Pharmacology, Prof. Cynthia Amaning Danquah; and the Year Master for the third-year cohort, Dr. Alexander B. Marful.

Students shared insights on the socio-economic potential of the communities, pedestrian experiences, physical infrastructure, and ecological characteristics identified during the field survey.
Prof. Duah noted that the exercise reflects the department’s commitment to linking academic training with real-world planning challenges and community development.

In a post on X, Mr. Acheampong commended the students for their initiative and creativity.
“Their dedication and creativity reaffirm my belief that the future of Ghana’s architecture is not only bright but transformative,” he said.
